Psychological Evaluations are helpful in understanding your child's learning needs and gaining insight into how to best support them across settings. Every evaluation is individualized based on your child's specific needs, and the process is designed to be a positive experience for them from start to finish!
STEP #1:
Initial parent meeting (one 50-minute session) to go over your referral question/needs, discuss history, and develop a good gameplan for the testing
STEP #2:
Testing (three 2-hr sessions)I will develop an individualized plan for testing based on your questions and needs; I will meet individually with your child/teen & will evaluate cognitive skills, current achievement level, and the foundational areas that may be impacting your child/teen in the academic setting (ex: memory, attention, executive functioning, language, processing, retrieval, organization, visual-motor skills, etc)
STEP #3:
Follow-up parent meeting (one 2-hr session)This meeting is when you will get a full report and discuss the findings of the testing. A focus will be on discussing the recommendations and accommodations that may be helpful in supporting your child/teen moving forward.
CAIS Testing is a cognitive screening used as part of the admissions process for our local Charlotte area private schools. If your child is applying for admission to one of the schools in the CAIS consortium for grades PreK/JK/TK-4th grade, I am happy to help with your testing needs. This testing involves a single appointment, but involves a few steps ahead of that appointment. First, you will need to email Dr. Gibson to secure an appointment. Once you have secured an appointment, Dr. Gibson will fill you in on the next steps and forward you paperwork. Excellent tips for testing day can be found in the CAIS brochure. CAIS testing typically takes an hour for children applying to the lower grades. Testing for children applying to 2nd-4th grades may take up to 90 minutes. There is an optional parent follow-up meeting for the CAIS testing process. If you are intersted in discussing your chlid's testing and learning about your child's cognitive strengths and weaknesses, this opportunity is available to you for an additional fee.
Testing for giftedness is typically conducted in one session; however different schools/school systems have different requirements. Please reach out to Dr. Gibson for specifics on what this process may look like for you and your child given your testing needs.
